Let’s Get
Social
Welcome to the Downtown Smithfield Social District
What Is the Social District?
The Social District allows visitors to enjoy alcoholic beverages in clearly designated outdoor areas within downtown. Whether you’re shopping, dining, or enjoying a local event, you can now explore downtown with a drink in hand—within district boundaries.
Where Can You Go?
District boundaries are marked with signage throughout downtown and below is a map of the Social District boundaries.

Hours of Operation
Wednesday – Friday: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Saturday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
How It Works
-
Alcoholic beverages must be served in plastic containers no larger than 16 oz.
-
Cups must be clearly labeled with the name of the business where the beverage was purchased.
-
Alcohol purchased in one establishment MAY NOT be taken into another establishment that also sells alcohol.
-
Beverages may only be consumed within the boundaries of the Social District.

All businesses within the district—whether or not they serve alcohol—will display signage indicating their participation. If a business allows outside beverages inside, you’re welcome to bring yours in! If not, please respect their policy and finish your drink before entering.
Look For the Signs:
DOOR DECALS
Door decals will be displayed on business entrances to identify their status:
WELCOMED HERE – for non-ABC permitted businesses that welcome alcoholic drinks in their establishments
NOT PERMITTED HERE – for businesses that do not want alcoholic beverages in their establishments

Important Reminders
Please remember that Town of Smithfield open container laws still apply outside of the designated Social District boundaries. Alcoholic beverages must not be carried or consumed beyond the marked area. If you observe any violations of the rules or disruptive behavior, we encourage you to notify local law enforcement to help us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.
